Privacy Policy
Pujor Shohor is a free guide to Kolkata's Durga Puja. You can use all of it without an account, and we collect as little about you as the site needs to work.
Who we are
Pujor Shohor (pujorshohor.in) is an independent website made in Kolkata. It is not affiliated with any puja committee, government body or transport operator. In this policy, "we" means the people who run the site.
What we collect, and why
- Votes (likes) and crowd reports. To stop one person voting or reporting many times over, we store a random device ID kept in your browser and a one-way hash of your IP address with each vote or "how busy is it" report. The hash cannot be turned back into your IP address.
- Photos you upload are published on the pandal's page after review. We store a hashed IP address with each upload to limit spam. Do not upload photos showing people who have not agreed to it.
- Pandal suggestions sent through the "Add a pandal" form are stored for review. If you fill in the optional contact field, we use it only to ask about your submission. It is never shown publicly.
- Your location. Buttons such as "Pujas near me" ask your browser for your location. It is used on your phone to sort pandals by distance and is never sent to our servers or stored.
- Things saved in your browser. Which pandals you have liked, and the name you enter for the Mahalaya listening room, are kept in your own browser's storage. Clearing your site data removes them.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful, for example how many people open the map on Saptami. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives your IP address, browser and pages visited. We do not send it your name, email or location. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or any content blocker.
Advertising
The site is kept free by advertising served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners show you ads based on those visits.
- You can turn off personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of other vendors' personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
- Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Visitors from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown. We do not choose which ads appear, and an ad is not an endorsement.
Other services the site uses
- Vercel hosts the site and keeps short-lived server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and debugging.
- Supabase stores the pandal directory, votes, uploads and submissions.
- OpenStreetMap map tiles are loaded from a map tile server when you open a map. That server sees your IP address, as with any image on the web.
- Google Maps. "Open in Google Maps" buttons take you to Google Maps, where Google's own privacy policy applies.
How long we keep it
Votes, published photos and pandal details are kept for as long as the guide uses them, which can include future years. Hashed IP addresses exist only to stop abuse and are never shown or shared. Analytics data is kept according to Google Analytics' retention settings (14 months at most). Ask us and we will delete anything you sent.
Children
The site is a general audience guide and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and similar laws elsewhere, you can ask what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Since we do not run accounts, include enough detail (the photo, or the submission and roughly when you sent it) for us to find it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Significant changes will also be noted on the home page.
